I spent most of the morning in Tlell visiting the artisan shops along Richardson Road.
Driving or walking down this short stretch of road is like entering into a world surrounded by creativity! You might not even notice that this ‘wonderland’ exists as you drive along the Highway 16 oceanside.

Take the time to turn left when you see the artisan signage at the Wiggins Road and Highway 16 intersection! Shortly thereafter, a turn to your right brings you to Richardson Road.
Full Moon Photo greets you as the first of the artisan shops along ‘Artisan Row’. Jason Shafto is an amazing photographer. Unfortunately for this blog, he is in the process of moving from Artisan Row' to a new location on Highway 16 in Tlell (but still 'easy to find!).

The next ‘must see’ on Artisan Row is Ernie Burnett’s Wood Carving Studio. Ernie’s specialty is in hand carving yellow cedar boxes, trays and plaques. He carves Haida designs onto much of his work and his prices are very reasonable! Ernie can be contacted at (250) 557-4531. Immediately following the B&B, you will want to make a left turn into the Crystal Cabin parking lot. The Crystal Cabin features Haida carved argillite and silver, crystals, gems, jewelry and lodging. Their website is located at http://crystalcabingallery.com/index.asp?p=1

The final artisan shop along Richardson Road is Sitka Studio. Sitka Studio provides gallery exposure for approximately 13 local artists with works ranging from pottery, prints, original paintings, crafts, woodwork, carving and jewelry. Tlell is a wonderful community, centrally located on Graham Island. The community is nestled between ocean and forest and has the convenience of a grocery and liquor store, campgrounds, B&Bs, artisan galleries and gift shops.
